In 1988 Pastor & Mrs. Esposito, with their infant son Joseph, as well as Pastor Meyers’ family, came to Long Beach to start Cambodian Baptist Church. The first service was held at the MacArthur Park recreational center on Anaheim Blvd. It was a “mission church” reaching primarily Cambodian refugees with the gospel. Through Pastor Esposito’s vision and sacrifice, we saw God do a great work and the church began to reach out, grow, and see hundreds and soon thousands saved.
Over the years, God blessed Pacific Baptist Church, and we began seeing people of all nationalities come to the saving knowledge of Jesus Christ and be added to the church. To welcome everyone, we changed the name of the church to Pacific Baptist Church. Scores of ministries have been started here to serve people of all age’s groups, ethnicities, and backgrounds. After Pastor Esposito’s illness in October of 2013, the church went forward with Steve Meyers as the interim pastor. He had been at PBC from the first Sunday and was instrumental in so many aspects of the church. Pastor Meyers was eventually voted in as our Pastor with a unanimous vote. Pastor Meyers has a heart to reach our community and disciple converts, as well as to make an impact in the uttermost parts of the earth. The church has a great staff, most of whom were reached through the ministries of the church as young people. God has grown our church to a membership of over 1,000, and He is adding to His church as we go forward. Pacific Baptist School was started in 1991, and Pacific Baptist Bible College, a four-year college, was started in 2004. God also used our church to plant a Pacific Baptist Church of Monterey Park in 2009. It is a growing, thriving ministry.
Though our past is full of the great and mighty works of God, we look forward with anticipation to a bright future. We seek to fulfill God’s Great Commission by reaching our community, branching out and starting churches in California, and sending our very own as missionaries around the world—both now and for many years to come. We place a big emphasis on the family and preparing the way for the next generation to continue God’s work.
