Recently, the president of El Salvador was interviewed about his country’s miraculous turnaround from one of the most dangerous countries in the world to one of the safest in the Western Hemisphere, even more so than America and Canada per capita. He was asked how he accomplished this, and he said, “You must first fight for peace, because nothing will work properly if you don’t have peace. Peace is the foundation upon which everything else is built.”
This principle is also true in the Christian life. Without the peace of God, nothing will work properly in your spiritual or physical life. The Bible says, “And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus” (Philippians 4:7). To have the peace of God, you must first have peace with God. This peace comes through knowing Christ as your Savior.
Romans 5:1 states, “Therefore being justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ.” This peace surpasses all understanding and guards our hearts and minds. Even in a chaotic world, you can have peace when you know God.
Consider the story of Paul and Silas when they were in jail facing certain death. Instead of worrying, they prayed and sang praises to God, and shortly after, they were delivered (Acts 16:25-26). Their trust in God brought them peace in a dire situation.
Knowing that our home someday will be in heaven brings a peace unlike anything else. Also, when we maintain a good relationship with God by reading our Bible, praying, seeking forgiveness of our sins regularly, and staying away from the wickedness of this world, we can have peace with God. This peace is essential for everything else in our lives to work properly.
