Proverbs 3:5-6 Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.
One of the scariest events that I have been involved with was teaching my daughter how to drive. I remember stepping out of the driver seat and giving her control of the car for the first time. It was in a nice, quiet neighborhood with very little traffic. I was expecting it to be a stress-free session, but my expectations turned into grim reality. My daughter needed A LOT OF WORK!!!!! What I expected to be a nice leisurely drive turned into a high-stress encounter where I was praying for God’s protection for us and for the poor people on the road!
One of the lessons that the Lord taught me happened when my daughter was driving on a street with a traffic light. Cars were parked on the side of the lane we were driving and oncoming traffic in the opposite lane. I can tell she was a bit frightened. To stay away from oncoming traffic, she adjusted too much to the side with the parked cars. I said calmly to watch out for the parked cars. She didn’t adjust. I told her louder, watch out for the parked car! She again, because she was scared of the oncoming traffic, did not adjust. I then reached over and adjusted the wheel so that she would not hit the parked car! As I forcefully swerved the wheel to avoid the parked car, my daughter showed some resistance! Instead of making it easy for me to turn the wheel, she held on to it tightly. She made it difficult for me to swerve our car, but I managed to safely steer us from an accident!
Many Christians today are figuratively driving carefree not knowing that they are about to get into a “wreck in life.” The Lord uses people and situations to help steer them away from danger! Instead of submitting to the Lord, they resist. They are clinching to lies of the world, the flesh, and the devil. They are holding on tight to the fear that if they let God take control they will miss out.
I want to challenge you, let God take full control of the wheel, let the Bible navigate you, and listen to every impulse of the Holy Spirit.
