If you have ever driven multiple long-distanced road trips, I am sure you have had a similar experience: Your eyes go from the road to your fuel gauge almost every other second. You anxiously and nervously anticipate that dreaded moment when your engine begins to sputter, you push on your gas pedal to no avail, your steering wheel locks up, and you pull over your vehicle in shame and discouragement. You ran out of gas!
I’ve met different types of people when it comes to fueling their vehicles. The one who likes to keep just enough fuel for each trip and the ones that like to keep their tank full consistently. If you are like me, once my tank gets to about half tank, I like to get it fueled back up to full. For me, I like the security in knowing I always have more than enough fuel needed for any future trips or errands.
James 4:5-6 Do ye think that the scripture saith in vain, The spirit that dwelleth in us lusteth to envy? But he giveth more grace. Wherefore he saith, God resisteth the proud, but giveth grace unto the humble.
What is grace? Grace is an amazing gift that God gives to His children. Some have described it this way: G-God’s R-Riches A-At C-Christ’s E-Expense. I like to think of grace in this regard: Grace is the ability to do what God wants us to do. A supernatural supplement or aide from God to see His will completed in and through our lives.
How do we get more grace? God lays it out simply and clearly for us. Humility is the key. Pride is the ultimate hindrance.
Here’s the truth and encouragement today, God’s desire is not to send us off “grace-less” to journey down the road of life, it’s not to just give barely enough for us to roll to the finish on momentum or fumes only. His desire is to give more grace, more than is necessary, more than we can imagine. We serve the God of more, do we not? And because of this, our generous God desires to give us more grace. We can go through this life encouraged by the truth that God will keep our tank full of more grace than is needed for every detour, every delay, and every roadblock.
II Corinthians 12:9 And he said unto me, My grace is sufficient for thee: for my strength is made perfect in weakness…
